Marble

Marble is a metamorphosed (change from immature to adult form) limestone, which when buried deep underground over a long time, under heat and pressure, changes into marble. Available in various colours and physical characteristics, old between 540 million & 4,5 billion years. Recommended mostly for indoor applications in the Middle East (as flooring, wall cladding and in some instance kitchen and bathroom counter tops) due to adverse weather conditions.

Maintenance Tips

To keep marble in pristine condition:

Seal the surface after installation to protect it from stains. Repeat the process once a year by buying off-the-shelf at hardware stores. Please note that in case of staining, one generally should wipe it within 10-15 minutes with a damp cloth, maximum an hour. There is a general misconception whereby sealer labels mention “guarantee 10 to 25 years protection” – this means that the thin layer applied might last that long however coffee, wine, or other liquids will penetrate through within the hour if not cleaned immediately.

Regularly clean using only water and damping a white cloth.

Hire professional maintenance companies to re-polish using polishing machines with diamond pads (1mm or 2mm layer is removed, and re-polished to client’s liking in terms of finishing with grouting also done), or use natural stone specific chemicals with polishing machines to give it a glossy look (without removing layers) which is a quicker solution. Both of these methods are not as expensive as some tend to believe.
